Uganda’s 19-year-old Jacob Kiplimo set a Personal Best and World Leading record after beating Norway’s 19-year-old Jakob Ingebrigtsen to win the Men’s 3000m Wanda Diamond League race in Rome, Italy on Thursday. The two promising 19-year-olds ran the fastest 3000m race time in 13 years. Kiplimo’s 7:26.64 is a national record was the World 8th best time of all time while Ingebrigtsen’s 7.27.05 was the 9th of all time. With 200m to run, Kiplimo and Ingebrigtsen showed their class and talent when they went into overdrive to set up an exciting finale.
While Ingebrigtsen looked poised for the win, Kiplimo simply switched gears with just about 15 meters to go, powering to the finishing line with so much ease. Ingebrigtsen could only look on in awe. Sadly, there were no spectators in the stadium. A week ago, Kiplimo won the 2020 Ostrava Golden Spike 5,000m in Czechia in Ostrava, Czech Republic in a record time of 12:48:63.
