17-year-old Kawooya who impressed during the AFCON U17 finals that were in Tanzania in 2019 is ready for the challenge. “I’m looking forward to playing for a fantastic and historical club. I will work hard to make sure I’m among the players to represent the club on the continent, the Uganda Premier League, and other competitions. I’m also ready to bring creativity to the team,” said Kawooya. Kawooya is one for the future and his move to KCCA is likely to take him places as promised by Mutebi. “He has potential and we want to work on it to make it a better product. He is going to be part of the 30 players. He will train with others and if he is doing well, he will be selected to play. It’s not a must that he is a starter because he has found so many talented players in that area.
He has staged himself well to get the promotion because of the performance he had in the U17 AFCON was fantastic. If such a player shows that potential at an early age, it is good to pick him early and develop him. That is what we did with Allan Okello,” stated Mutebi. The duo joins Juma Balinya, Ashraf Mugume, Charles Lwanga, Mazengo Loro, Denis Iguma, Bright Anukani, Brian Aheebwa, Samson Kigozi, and academy graduate Dominic Ayella as the fresh faces in the KCCA squad.
